Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 25, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how ShortTab™ ("ShortTab," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website and app (the "Service"), which connects consumers with live deals from local restaurants and bars. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create a consumer or business account, we collect your email address and password (stored and authenticated for us by our infrastructure provider — we never see or store your password in plain text), plus which type of account you signed up for (consumer or business). Business accounts must sign up with an email on the business's own domain rather than a personal address like Gmail or Yahoo.

Profile information. Your display name, avatar, and preferences such as your dark-mode setting.

Location information (consumers). If you choose to set a home address and feed radius, we collect that address and convert it into map coordinates (using a third-party geocoding service) so we can show you deals near you and how far away they are. Setting a home address is optional — without one, distance-based filtering and sorting simply won't be available to you.

Business information. If you run a business account, we collect your business name, category, description, brand image, business address (also geocoded via a third-party service), and — if you choose to configure it — your Tap2Join SMS number and keyword (see Section 5, below).

Content you submit. Deals you or a business post, reviews and star ratings you leave on a deal, and any deals you submit or flag that you spotted at a local business (including when that business doesn't yet have a ShortTab account).

Usage and device information. Standard technical information generated by using a website or app — pages viewed, actions taken, browser/device type, IP address, and similar log data — along with the cookies and session identifiers needed to keep you signed in.

2. How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and personalize the Service — for example, showing deals sorted by distance from your home address.
  • Create and secure your account, authenticate you, and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • Display your reviews, ratings, and submitted deals to other users, and show businesses the reviews and submissions tied to their listings.
  • Communicate with you about your account, deals you've interacted with, or changes to the Service.
  • Moderate content and enforce our Terms of Use, including suspending or banning accounts that violate them.
  • Analyze and improve the Service.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. How We Share Information

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only in these situations:

  • With other users, as part of how the Service works. Reviews, ratings, display names/avatars, and deal submissions are visible to other users by design. A business you review can see your review and reply to it.
  • With service providers who help us run the Service — including infrastructure providers for authentication, database hosting, and geocoding of addresses into map coordinates. These providers only receive what they need to perform their function and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
  • For legal reasons — if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ShortTab, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer — if ShortTab is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy (or a successor policy you're notified of).

4. Tap2Join and SMS

Some businesses configure a "Tap2Join" phone number and keyword on their listing. Tapping this button opens your own phone's messaging app with a pre-filled text — sending it is entirely your choice and is a text sent directly from you to that business, not through ShortTab. We don't operate that SMS program, don't receive or store the resulting message or your phone number, and aren't a party to whatever texting list or consent you give the business by sending it. Any opt-in, message and data rates, or opt-out (e.g., replying STOP) is governed by that business's own SMS program and privacy practices, not ours.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your session. We don't currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If that changes, we'll update this Policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain account and content information for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time (see Section 8).

7. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards — including relying on our infrastructure providers' authentication and database security — to help protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Choices and Rights

  • You can review and update your account and profile information at any time from your Profile settings.
  • You can remove your home address or adjust your feed radius at any time; doing so simply turns off distance-based features.
  • You can delete a review you've left (submitting a new rating on the same deal replaces your prior one rather than adding a duplicate).
  • You can request that we delete your account and associated personal information by contacting us at the address below, subject to information we're required to retain by law.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, portability, or objection) under applicable privacy law. Contact us to make a request.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Third-Party Links

The Service may link to or reference third parties — a business's own website or social media, Google Maps, or similar. We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of sites or services we don't operate. Review their policies before providing them with information.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Policy.
